Fennie Lou Hamer High School
Fannie Lou Hamer HS, Bronx NY
A group of five existing NYC Board of Education/NYC School Construction Authority (SCA) industrial buildings were renovated as part of the NYC SCA’s Leased Space Program to create a 3-story 57,000 sq. ft. educational facility.
Zaskorski & Associates in cooperation with the School Construction Authority, completed renovation of this building, including new interior finishes, and new mechanical, fire alarm and life safety, food preparation service, sprinkler & electrical systems.
The Gymnasium was an existing prefabricated metal storage shed for an electrical contractor, which, at one time, housed the old scoreboard and lights from Yankee Stadium. The Gymnasium renovation consisted of a state-of-the-art, hardwood basketball court with glass, retractable backboards, and retractable bleacher seating.
A new glazed, masonry unit block wall was constructed along the inside face of the metal-lined structure up to a height of 9’-0” with mineral fiber bond for the remaining height.
